International Standard Archival Authority Record ISAAR(CPF)

Descriptive Featured

Standard for creating authority records for corporate bodies, persons, and families.

Description

ISAAR(CPF) is the International Standard Archival Authority Record for Corporate Bodies, Persons and Families, developed and issued by the International Council on Archives (ICA). This archival standard provides guidelines for creating authority records that identify and describe corporate entities, individuals, and family groups that generate or hold archival materials. The second edition represents the current version of this foundational descriptive standard.

The standard establishes consistent methods for establishing authoritative names and relationships among entities documented in archival systems. ISAAR(CPF) works in conjunction with ISAD(G), the companion standard for describing archival holdings themselves, enabling archivists to create comprehensive reference systems that link descriptive records with their authoritative sources. The guidelines are available in fifteen languages, reflecting the standard's international application across archives worldwide.
